Did You Reach Your Goodreads 2019 Reading Goal?

Did You Reach Your Goodreads 2019 Reading Goal?

I set 50 books as my reading goal this year. As of writing this I’ve read 44. But there’s still time! I have 3 quite short books on my shelf and some comics to read before the day is out. There. Is. Still. Time. And books. I am never short on books.

Who knows? By the time I post this I may have reached my 50 book goal. We shall see. (Spoiler: I did.)

Children’s books saved me

On Goodreads you can see all the books you read this year. Most of mine were picture books. I don’t think this is a bad thing, because I was studying picture books and writing one myself at university, but I know I used them to increase my Goodreads number of books read. It was not fair on picture books! They are amazing and I used them for my own gain! All so I could meet my reading goal.

Audiobooks

I’ve only very recently got into audiobooks. I haven’t actually found time to listen to any yet though. I guess audiobooks are for 2020. First to listen to on my list is Stephen Fry’s Mythos. I’m not sure whether I’ll set a reading goal for 2020 yet (I probably will) but audiobooks might help. They’d let me get through more books in less time.

Reading goal

I’m not sure how I feel about setting a reading goal. This was the first year I set myself a goal, but I probably read too many picture books and comics. Technically, yes, I met my goal, but I think I would have read more chapter books if I wasn’t always so aware of the number of books I should have read by then.

How do you feel about reading goals? Did you set one for yourself this year? Did you meet it? And more interestingly, what did having a goal do to your reading habits?
