I’m so thrilled to share that I was recently featured in The Quick Six Interview series on Just Write For Kids – a platform that champions Australian children’s literature and the incredible creators behind it. This interview was such a joy to be part of, and I’m so grateful to have connected with a community that genuinely values kidlit, the magic of storytelling, and the importance of nurturing young readers.
Led by the wonderful Romi Sharp, the Quick Six is a thoughtful and engaging author interview series that shines a spotlight on children’s book creators across the country. I loved the format – short, sharp, and meaningful questions that give insight into the heart of your book, your writing journey, and what makes your story come alive.
A bit about the interview
In my Quick Six feature, I wrote all about The Potion Experiment – my debut middle-grade novel – and the inspiration behind the story. I also covered the writing and publishing process, what it’s like to be an indie author, and my hopes for young readers who pick up the book.
One of my favourite parts? Seeing The Potion Experiment described with such warmth and insight:
“Here is a novel that cleverly combines and draws similarities between magic and science, all the while conjuring fun and whimsy with characters who embark on a multi-layered journey of friendship and self-discovery. There’s more than meets the eye with this surprising tale. It’s sure to put a spell on readers from start to finish!”

Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a more enchanting summary of what I hoped to achieve with the book. It means the world to see readers and reviewers connect with the story’s heart and humour.
Why interviews matter
As a debut author – especially an indie one – being able to participate in an author interview is more than just a fun opportunity. It’s a chance to share the “why” behind the story, to introduce your book to new readers, and to connect with a wider community of writers, educators, booksellers, and families who believe in the power of children’s literature.
Interviews like these also offer a behind-the-scenes peek into the creative process. If you’ve ever wondered what inspires a story, what a writer’s routine looks like (or doesn’t), or how a character came to life, author interviews are a lovely way to learn more – and support emerging voices along the way.
Personally, taking part in The Quick Six reminded me just how much thought and heart goes into not just writing a book, but into nurturing a community around it. Being part of the children’s lit world means joining a circle of creators who care deeply – not only about the books themselves, but about the readers they’re made for. It’s a space filled with kindness, encouragement, and a shared belief that stories can truly shape lives.
Thank you, Just Write For Kids!
Thank you again to Just Write For Kids and Romi Sharp for having me. It was such a pleasure to be part of this vibrant and supportive network. Your platform does so much to uplift creators and connect young readers with books they’ll love – and I’m honoured to have The Potion Experiment featured.
