My debut novel, The Potion Experiment, has now been out in the world for over a month, and I still can’t quite believe it! Holding a story that lived in my head for so long as a real, physical book feels like magic. Whether you’ve been following the journey from the very beginning or are just hearing about it now – thank you for being here and supporting this indie author.
This book was a labor of love from start to finish. As an indie author, I’ve taken on every role: writer, editor, cover decision-maker, marketer, and publisher. It’s been a wild ride, full of learning curves and late nights, but also so much joy. Every bit of encouragement, whether it’s a kind message, a book purchase, or a simple share, goes a long way toward helping this story find its readers.
So what is The Potion Experiment actually about? It’s a whimsical, heart-filled fantasy story packed with magic, mischief, friendship, and just the right amount of chaos. Imagine potions-gone-wrong, unexpected adventures, and magical mishaps that spiral into something much bigger than anyone anticipated. If you enjoy fantasy with warmth, humour, and a cast of characters you’ll want to hug (or possibly shake), then this book was written for you!
Every bit of support goes a long way for indie authors. If you’re wondering how you can help out (besides reading the book, of course!), here are a few ways to make a huge impact.
1. Buy the book
Let’s start with the obvious – grabbing a copy of the book is the number one way you can support me (or any indie author)! The eBook is currently just $5 on Amazon Australia, and the paperback is $21. Whether you’re a digital reader or love that new-book smell, there’s an option for you.
You can find all the purchase links here – I’ve made it super easy to choose your favourite retailer.
2. Ask your local library to stock the book
This is one of the best ways to support indie authors that many people don’t think about. It’s free for you, and it makes my book available to more readers who may stumble across it on the shelves.
Libraries (and bookstores, and even schools!) take suggestions seriously, especially when local readers request titles. Just give them the title (The Potion Experiment) and the indie author name (Elle McFadzean), and ask them to consider stocking it. Easy peasy.
3. Leave a review
Reviews are incredibly important for indie author books. They help more people find the book, build credibility, and tell the mysterious internet algorithms that it’s worth promoting.
Even a short review – like “I loved this!” or “The characters were so fun” – can make a difference. If you’re feeling generous, you can leave a review for The Potion Experiment on:
- Goodreads
- Amazon (US, Australia, or wherever you purchased)
- Or anywhere you like to share book thoughts!
Ratings-only reviews (just stars, no words) are also very welcome!

4. Spread the word
Word of mouth is gold for new books. If you enjoyed The Potion Experiment, consider telling a friend, posting about it on social media, or even gifting a copy to a fellow book lover.
Sharing the book in group chats, book clubs, or even in a casual convo can make a huge impact. And if you do post online, feel free to use the hashtag #ThePotionExperiment – I’d love to see and share your posts!
5. Follow along on social media
If you want to stay up to date on book news, behind-the-scenes peeks, future projects, and probably a few silly memes, come hang out with me online!
I’m most active on Instagram and my blog, where I post bookish updates, writing thoughts, and the occasional chaos of indie author life. Likes, shares, and comments all help boost visibility, too – plus, it’s fun to connect with you there!
To everyone who’s already supported me in any of these ways: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Whether you’ve bought a copy, left a review, shared a post, told a friend, or even just cheered me on quietly in the background, it all means more than I can say. Knowing that people are out there reading and enjoying this story makes every moment of the indie author journey worthwhile. I can’t wait to share more magical adventures with you in the future.
