This month I spoke at an MPavilion event hosted by Kim from Archemist in the Making. I think the live reading is going to be made into a video or podcast, but I don’t know when that will be released. Or if, really. When/if it is, I’ll post it here.
I’ve attended many MPavilion events before, but this is the first one I’ve spoken at. Their events are fascinating; discussions about design and its impact on our lives – similar to Design Week events, which I’ve written about previously.
Plus the pavilions are interesting to see. The structures are designed by architects and change every year. When the next year comes around, the current pavilion is donated to a location in Melbourne. This year was a bit different – being held at the Parkade car park – but the setting was still definitely unique.
What was the event?
The event was called The Lost Narratives: A Live Reading. Kim also wrote a blog post about it. I realise it may have been smarter and more beneficial – marketing-wise – to post this before the event, but here we are. How many people who read this live in Melbourne anyway?
What was my live reading about?
I wrote about the narrative (lost narrative?) of the house I grew up in. It was my grandma’s house first, then my immediate family’s, and now there are units in front of the house. This transformation and my perspective of the changes formed the story I read for this live event.
How did the live reading go?
The event went well. I don’t have a problem public speaking so I was more excited than nervous.
As the event was held in an undercover car park, I can’t say whether the acoustics were really good or really bad but I think people were able to hear me. I forced my mum and siblings to go (thank you, if you are reading this) and they said they could hear me so I consider that a win.
