I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! As expected, it was incredible. There were magical surprises I wasn’t expecting and impressive feats I’ll never know how they managed.
Getting tickets
I was incredibly lucky to find out that the producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child were giving away 700 free tickets to the final dress rehearsal in Melbourne! On Sunday, January 13, I went with my sister to the Princess Theatre very early in the morning and waited in line. Everyone was dressed up and building off each other’s excitement so the wait went quickly.
At 9am we were given a wristband and I was number 128 in line. Then, once all the wristbands were handed out, they began letting us in to get our tickets. And we got them! Tickets to part 1 and part 2 of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! If you want to see it, you can get your tickets here.
The play
I have lots of Harry Potter merchandise but no clothes, so I was sure to go buy a Gryffindor tie before the first performance on Wednesday, January 16, which I wore to both performances. To show my house pride! I also took Harry Potter’s wand. I then annoyed my sister with constant requests for photos, but I was so thrilled to be there.
In the video I saw promoting the free tickets they said the final dress rehearsal is usually reserved for the creative team, and I was expecting the play to stop and start as small adjustments were made. The play ran so smoothly, however, that if there was anything that didn’t go to plan I didn’t know.
I loved the entire performance and it just got better as the show went on. The music was fantastic, the lighting and effects were incredible, the comedy was hilarious and the acting was brilliant. Skip to the next paragraph to avoid spoilers! I don’t want to give away spoilers! I’ll just write some individual words to summarise what I loved. Cloaks. Ghosts. Dementors. Bookcase. Warping. Glowing. Everything.
I’m still amazed I got to see the first public performance of the show in Melbourne. I definitely recommend going to see it! I may not have received my Hogwarts acceptance letter (even though I could not love the Harry Potter books more), but I got to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!
