I have some exciting news to share – my debut novel The Potion Experiment has received an Honourable Mention in the Children’s Books category of the BooksShelf Awards – July 2025! Seeing my little book recognised alongside other incredible stories is so encouraging.
Honourable Mention recognition
The BooksShelf Awards run every month, celebrating books across categories like fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children’s literature. They spotlight both indie and traditionally published authors, giving readers a chance to discover new favourites. Each month, the judges choose winners, but they also give special nods like Honourable Mentions. To me, that recognition is encouragement that the story resonated with readers beyond my own circle.

Endorsed by Reedsy
This award feels even more significant because BooksShelf contests are recommended by Reedsy, a platform many writers trust and respect. Reedsy curates opportunities for authors, which makes their recommendation of BooksShelf a reassuring stamp of credibility. Knowing that The Potion Experiment was recognised through an award endorsed by Reedsy adds an extra layer of pride, and it reminds me that small indie books can hold their own in spaces that celebrate quality and creativity.

Encouragement from an Honourable Mention
I’m deeply grateful to the BooksShelf team, to Reedsy for supporting opportunities like this, and most of all to the readers, reviewers and friends who have championed The Potion Experiment. Your encouragement has made this journey feel magical (even without any real potions involved).
More stories to come
And of course, this is just the beginning. I’m already dreaming up more stories that mix science, magic and some chaos. Until then, I’ll keep pinching myself about this lovely surprise.
